Course project
This is where you show you can do what the course promised. Build your project in the builder below. The site checks each rubric row and tells you what to fix. Your certificate needs this step and a passed Posttest.
Capstone rubric
The site checks each part. A row passes when your work matches Ready. You need all six rows.
| Part | Not yet | Getting there | Ready |
|---|---|---|---|
| Income | None listed. | A guess. | Monthly income from pay stubs or last year divided by 12. |
| Expenses | Some bills. | Bills only. | Bills plus groups from the spending log. |
| Left over or short | Not found. | Found, no plan. | Found, with a plan if short. |
| One change | None. | An idea. | One want cut or trimmed, with the weekly amount. |
| Savings goal | None. | A goal, no plan. | A goal, a weekly amount, and an automatic transfer plan. |
| Free help | None. | One idea. | One free tax or money help source with how to reach it. |
Compare your capstone: example answers
These are made up examples. Compare your work row by row.
A strong example
- Income: $1,850 a month, from my last two pay stubs.
- Expenses: rent $900, bills $260, plus groups from my log: food $380, travel $120, fun $90.
- Left over: $100.
- One change: coffee out from $20 to $10 a week.
- Savings goal: $400 starter fund, $20 each payday, automatic transfer the day after payday.
- Free help: VITA site at the library, found on the IRS locator.
A weak example, with feedback
- Weak: Income: about $2,000, I think. Why and how to fix: A guess. Use your pay stubs, or last year's income divided by 12.
- Weak: Savings: save what is left. Why and how to fix: No amount and no plan. Pick a weekly amount and an automatic transfer day.
- Weak: Expenses: rent and phone only. Why and how to fix: Add the groups from your spending log, like food and travel.
Fix it and try again
For each row that says Not yet, read the feedback above, go back to the lesson for that part, and fix it. Then press Check my project again. You can do this as many times as you want.
End of course self check
Mark how sure you feel about each goal. This is not a grade, and it does not change your certificate.
