Account and progress
Do I need an account?
No. BMU has no accounts or logins right now. Free courses, tools and guides work without signing up.
Where is my progress saved?
Your lesson progress, badges, notes, test answers and tool results are saved in your own browser on this device (local storage). They are not sent to BMU, so we cannot see them or restore them.
My progress disappeared. Can you get it back?
We are sorry, but no. Progress is lost if you clear your browser data, use private or incognito browsing, switch browsers, or switch devices. To keep it, use the same device and browser, and do not clear site data for bettermeuniversity.com. Some tools have Copy, Download or Print buttons so you can keep your own copy.
Can I move my progress to a new phone or computer?
Not yet. Accounts that sync across devices are planned. For now, finish a course on one device and browser.
How do I reset a course?
Use the reset button on the course or tool page, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Clearing site data erases everything BMU saved on that device.
Billing
Is All Access open?
Not yet. BMU All Access enrollment is not open, and nothing is for sale on this site today. Joining the waitlist is free and is not a purchase.
How much will All Access cost?
All Access will be $9.99 a month for unlimited access to the course catalog, once enrollment opens. Free courses, tools and guides will stay free.
Where are the billing terms?
The full billing terms for the monthly membership will be shown before you pay anything. Nothing is charged today.
I was charged by BMU. What do I do?
BMU is not charging anyone yet. If you see a charge that says BMU or Better Me University, do not share card details with anyone. Contact us and choose Billing, and contact your card company if you did not make the charge.
Certificates
How do I get a certificate?
Each course ends with a post-test you pass to earn the certificate. You need 80% or higher before the certificate opens. Finish the lessons and pass the post-test on the same device and browser, then open the certificate page from My Classes, type your name and print it. You can retake the post-test as many times as you need.
Is the certificate accredited?
No. BMU is not an accredited institution. Certificates are informal certificates of completion. They do not award college credit, degrees, diplomas, licenses or professional certifications.
My certificate is locked, but I finished.
The certificate checks the progress saved in this browser. If you finished on another device or cleared your browser data, the lessons will show as not done. Mark the lessons complete again on this device. If the course has a post-test, you need to pass it on this device.
Can you fix a typo in my certificate?
Yes, you can fix it yourself. Retype your name on the certificate page and print again. BMU does not store your name.
Pre-tests and post-tests
Is the pre-test graded?
No. The pre-test shows your starting point. It is fine not to know the answers.
What is the pass mark for the post-test?
80%. You can take it as many times as you need. If you do not pass, we show the skills to review and the lessons to reread. Answers appear once you pass.
What is the device code?
A random code your browser creates the first time you save a test. It is not linked to your name or email. If you send the optional course survey, it lets us count each device once. The Clear my test data button erases it.
Do I have to take the course survey?
No. The short survey after you pass a post-test is optional and anonymous, and you can skip it and still get your certificate. If you ask us to check in after 30 days, we either show a reminder on this device or, if you choose email, keep your address apart from your answers and delete it after one email.
Tutors
How do I find a tutor?
Go to Find a Tutor, pick a subject and goal, and send the request. We email you if we find an approved tutor who fits.
Are tutors BMU employees?
No. Tutors are independent. BMU only introduces students and tutors and does not guarantee a match or results.
Do I pay the tutor?
Not now. Paid tutoring through BMU is not open yet. Never pay a tutor directly, and tell us if someone asks you to.
My child needs a tutor. What do I do?
A parent or guardian must be on the request for any student under 18, and tutors must pass a background check first. Read the Tutor Guidelines.
How do I become a tutor?
Apply on the Become a BMU Tutor page. You must be 18 or older and agree to the Tutor Guidelines.
Technical problems
A page or button is not working.
Refresh the page, and make sure JavaScript is turned on. Then try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. If it still fails, contact us and choose Technical problem. Tell us the page, your device and browser, and what happened.
A form will not send.
Check that every required box is filled in, including the consent checkbox. Some ad blockers and privacy tools block forms. Try again with them paused for this site.
Printing looks wrong.
Use your browser's Print command, and turn on Background graphics if the colors are missing. Certificates print best in landscape. Job aids and guides print best in portrait.
I did not get an email from BMU.
Check your spam or promotions folder. Some BMU emails are not connected yet, so a form may save without sending you an email right away.
Privacy and deleting your data
What does BMU know about me?
Only what you choose to send in a form, such as your name and email on a waitlist, a tutor request, or a help request. Progress and test answers stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
For data on your device, use the reset or Clear my test data buttons, or clear this site's data in your browser. For anything you sent us in a form, contact us and choose Privacy or delete my data. Use the same email you used before, so we can find it.
How do I unsubscribe from email?
Every BMU email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also contact us and ask.
Accessibility
Can I use BMU with a screen reader or keyboard?
We build BMU to work with keyboards and screen readers, with clear headings, labels on every form field, and a Skip to content link.
Can I make the text bigger?
Yes. Use your browser zoom (Ctrl and plus, or Command and plus on a Mac). Pages are built to reflow on small screens and at high zoom.
Something is hard to use. Who do I tell?
Please tell us. Contact us and choose Technical problem, say it is an accessibility issue, and describe the page and what got in the way. We will work to fix it or get you the content another way.
Still need help?
Send us a message and choose a topic. We read every message and reply as soon as we can.
