Speak Up
One simple shape for a short talk, calm for your nerves, phone practice, and listening skills.
Who this course is for
- You need to speak up at work, at school, or at a public meeting
- You get nervous before you talk in front of others
- You want people to feel heard when they talk to you
What you will be able to do
- Plan a short talk with one point, one example, and one ask, in that order, that fits about two minutes.
- Record a two minute practice talk on a phone, rate it with a seven item checklist, and make one fix per round.
- Use three listening skills (repeat back, ask an open question, summarize) in real conversations and log them.
- Use two calming methods for speaking nerves (slow breathing and the excitement reframe) and know when to talk with a health care provider.
